Memory: Mechanisms, Processes and Applications Research Theme. University of Otago New Zealand

Objectives and Impact

Aims of the Theme

The overarching goals of the Theme are to enhance memory research excellence and facilitate postgraduate education.

Objectives

  1. Maintain an environment that supports and enhances cutting edge research that is internationally recognised
  2. Increase the opportunities for contact and communication between Theme members
  3. Increase the local and national awareness of memory research at the University of Otago

Impact

The value of research for the academic community is clearly signalled by the large number of published papers and conference presentations by Theme members. The educational value of the research is supported by the large number of recent graduates from theme-related programmes and by the authorship and co-authorship by postgraduate students of published papers and conference presentations. Finally, Theme members also make a concerted effort to disseminate findings from their laboratories to the wider, non-academic community. One or more Theme members have given talks on memory-related topics to a wide range of community groups including Parents as First Teachers, Plunket, the Police, Children’s Issues Centre, Catholic Support Services, Youthline, the New Zealand Fire Service, the Dunedin Community Care Trust, and the Kip McGrath Learning Centres.
