Human Performance in General Aviation
(Ashgate Publishing Ltd)
While most pilots and flights are in the general aviation (GA) sector, the available literature deals mainly with airline or transport aviation. Yet in general aviation the changes are just as far reaching, in flight instruction, navigation, and aircraft design and instrumentation, with consequent effects on the roles of pilots and all who enable them to fly.
This is the first edited volume on human performance in GA. Each chapter is by an invited expert on both the research literature and the operational background of GA. The authors survey the current state of knowledge in areas critical to GA, spelling out both the operational implications, and the directions needed for future research.
Topics covered include:
§ Strategies for flight instruction
§ The development of computer-based training
§ Stress and decision making
§ Skill development
§ The involvement of GA pilots in incidents and accidents
§ Human factors implications of GPS use
§ The future of aircraft design and development in GA
