This active research group (Left to

Billy Jorgensen, David O'Hare, Kerry O'Brien, Nadia Mullen) is currently based
on the first floor of Darwin House in the
Department of Psychology at
the University of Otago. In addition to the projects listed here, there are
on-going projects at third-year (undergraduate), fourth-year (postgraduate),
Masters, and PhD level. A number of students have been
enrolled with the University but based in industry including at
Qantas in Sydney, and the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation in Canberra.
Since 2000 we have received funding for our research from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
A suite of laboratory computers are connected to the departmental network and the Internet. Our top-of-the-range computers (Athlon XP3000s with 3-screen graphics output and a high-resolution NEC WT600 short-throw projector) are used for running simulations of air traffic control and light aircraft flight.
We are involved in collaborative work with the University of Western Sydney, the Aviation Research Laboratory (ARL), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Department of Cognitive Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. The laboratory also collaborates with other researchers within the University of Otago (e.g., School of Physical Education; Injury Prevention Research Unit).
There are excellent opportunities for students to get involved at all levels through part-time work and by carrying out research projects.
Please contact us by email for further information.
